This guide explains how to assign ticket categories to seats, rows, or tables on a reserved‑seating floor plan and highlights best practices for General Admission (GA) sections. Follow these steps to ensure seat inventory is controlled accurately and customers see the correct ticket options at checkout.
Before You Begin
1. Review or Create a Floor Plan in the Venue
- A floor plan template should first be created in the venue.
-
When you create an event, select the template; it becomes a unique floor plan for that event, which you can modify as needed without affecting the original venue template.
2. Use the Appropriate Ticket Settings
-
Reserved: Use for seats in numbered rows or for individual/full tables.
-
General Admission: Use for standing or open‑seating sections.
-
Setting the correct type is essential; the seating chart editor will only let you map “Reserved” tickets to specific seats or tables. "General Admission" is only for GA Sections (see below).
GA Sections
-
- You can add an area on your floor plan for standing room or general admission sections, or for selling parking passes or other any non-seated ticketed items on a floor plan.
-
If multiple GA sections exist and you need to cap sales per section, create one unique ticket category for each GA section. Sharing a single category can oversell one section while leaving others undersold.
- Do not confuse the GA section tool with the Shape tool.
Steps to Assign Reserved Seating
- Open event and go to the "Edit" section
- Navigate to Events and click the "3 dots" option and select "Edit"
- From the edit page for your event, click on "Edit Seating Chart".

Select Rows and Tables or GA sections
- Click individual rows or tables, or drag to select multiple.
- Set the quantity in a GA section by selecting one GA section at a time and adjusting the quantity in the right side details panel.

- Seat colors update instantly to match the category color.
- Colors can be edited in the Ticket Settings at any time in the process.
-
Apply Holds or Blocks (optional)
- To Hold seats for VIPs or sponsors, we recommend creating a "hidden ticket type" and assigning that category to the seats to be held.
- To remove seats from being sold, you can delete the seats or use the Block option in the "Seat Statuses" to remove seats from sale.
- Held or blocked seats will be grayed out.
-
Save & Publish
- Click Publish Changes to update the floor plan (this will not publish the event if it is still a draft.
- A confirmation banner appears when changes are successful.
-
Preview and Test your floor plan
- To see the live floor plan in checkout, you will need to "Publish" the event. You can set it to "Private" first if you wish to keep the event link secret while you test the floor plan.
